Redondo Beach Lobster Festival (9/26-9/28)
Lobster, Beach, Beer and Reggae music; Need I say more. These were the words that were echoing all around us last night at the 13th Annual Dive N’ Surf Redondo Beach Lobster Festival (http://www.lobsterfestival.com/) put on by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau and Dive N Surf.
We found the festival link on the web months ago and decided that we were going to partake in the festivities when it rolled around. We purchased our Lobster Meals online and were all set. Tickets included admission, Lobster meal (Big/Small Louie) and festival tee shirt.
We headed down to Redondo Beach with our friends on a Lobster eating mission. Foodies from all over Los Angeles and the South Bay converged on the Seaside Lagoon (200 Portofino Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277) for the festivities that included fresh Maine lobsters, live music, professional wakeboarding demonstrations, beachwear fashion shows, and various food vendors from all over the city.
While we ate we were jamming and skankin to the Reggae beats of Iration. The band’s roots, rock vibes provided a chill and happy vibe to the festival. We had seen them before and we knew that they would provide positive entertainment as they fuse together a unique blend of reggae combining their California & Hawaii reggae style. Later in the night after our meals had digested we heard a new reggae/ska band hailing from the South Bay: Hermosa Beach to be exact by the name of Too Rude. The five-piece band sums themselves up as being “reminiscent of the Clash meets the Bad Brains style in an original way.” They were the perfect after hour’s entertainment and they closed out day 1 of the festival.
The wake board demonstrations and Body Glove fashion shows also kept us all entertained along with the countless food vendors. We sampled amazing homemade guacamole from “Holy Guaca-Moly”. A heap of homemade goodness was stacked tall on an authentic tortilla chip and provided the perfect contrast to the lobster meal that we consumed earlier. We also sampled homemade gelato from Paciugo of Hermosa Beach. The Wedding Cake and Chocolate flavors made my mouth water. Perfect tasting Gelato is always a great way to cap off the night.
Take a moment to browse the photo gallery from the event that was documented by our good friend and fellow foodie Joseph Briscoe (www.briscoephoto.com). These photos capture the true essence of the Redondo Beach Lobster Festival. I am already making plans for next year’s event.
