This Cozy 1930’s inspired Japanese Sushi bar is a hidden treasure in the Los Angeles(Beverly Center Grove Area). Its lounge-like atmosphere pays homage to its Katsuya counterparts where gourmet sushi and a chill vibe is the focus. We dined here with our friends who are fellow foodies. Unanimously,we decided to take a family style approach to the sushi since everything sounded worthy of a taste and none of us are shy about trying something new. This allowed for maximum menu and taste exposure. Our Favorite items were the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna appetizer, Miso Soup & Miso soup with Clams, Spicy Rock Shrimp Appetizer, Robert Roll and Crab Tempura Roll.
Over the past year, I have developed my own test of sushi quality control and I have dubbed it the “Uni Test”. If the uni is fresh and salty to the taste than I will give a sushi restaurant a high ranking. If not then I will grade accordingly. This is a delicate culinary delight and it must be served fresh in order for it to reach its potential. I had no worries here because everything that we had ordered had surpassed my previous expectations. I was not surprised at how fresh and amazing The Uni sushi was here. It tasted like the chef went out and caught it that instant. I would rank our overall experience and give this restaurant the title of Best Sushi in Los Angeles because of freshness, quality, taste, price-point and menu selections. Izaka-ya by Katsuya is truly the place for sushi connoisseurs.
