OPENING RECEPTION: “POP FRINGE” – A Group Show
Saturday, July 28, 2012 – 7:00pm – 10:00pm
At Altered Space, we’re always seeking artists that walk along a certain fringe, where seemingly unrelated processes can collide to create innovatively wild and uniquely crafted art-objects! Our slogan “Art + Design + Object” is more than that; it is our mission! We know the innovators are out there and this time, we’ve got a show that questions the limits of today’s trendiest contemporary art movement.
“POP FRINGE” is a showcase of 3 contemporary painters that walk along the frayed edge of the “lowbrow/street” establishment.
MEEX ONE pushes the signifiers of graffiti’s mark-making vocabulary to a state of heightened ambience, while maintaining a sense of critical urgency. His paintings lie in the intersection of beauty and vandalism.
MICHELE MIKESELL seeks fantastical possibilities to real-world oddities. Her paintings tell their own other-worldly history: avant-classicism from a parallel universe.
TYLER FERREIRA pulls from the fragmented unconscious of street art’s recent “coming of age”. His large scale drawings and stone-block prints illustrate narratives about narratives.
