A Win Win in Valley Village

The focus instantly changed from watching what was on the flat screens to what was on the tables: marinated steak tips on garlic toast with blue cheese, pretzels, deviled eggs, bistro burgers stuffed with Boursin cheese and fries, roasted Shishito peppers, and a pepperoni flatbread. Another table featured peanut butter pie and too-hot-to-eat-yet-you’re-going-to-anyway donut holes.

When Restaurant Fiction meets Reality | A Personal Obituary to Anthony Bourdain

By: Monis Rose from Restaurant Fiction. In 2006, Anthony Bourdain helped me win a fellowship to New York City.  I never met him personally, but I wrote about him. I fell in love with Bourdain when the Food Network aired only three episodes of his failed show, “A Cook’s Tour.” I woke up around 5am when the only […]

Montrésor is A feast for the Eyes, Mind, Body and Soul!

Michelin star chef Paul Shoemaker commands the skilled and calm kitchen. French onion soup oozes Gruyère cheese. Beneath are sweated down golden onions soft and sweet to its core swimming in a broth only fit for the gods. The gastrique makes the crab cake pretty, but the dish speaks for itself regardless.

Experience the Savory and Sweet flavors of the Mediterranean in Pico-Robertson

Alain Cohen is that chef. He has many claims to his fame. His Pretzel Challah loaf is the one in the papers. No one talks about his charcuterie board yet. The sausage, prosciutto, soppressata, and pâté taste like pig, but none of the meats come it. That’s the point. There’s love in the details of the dish too. From the olives, to the mustard, and itty-bitty pieces of crostini.

The Best of the ExpoWest 2017

We had a brief yet successful visit to ExpoWest 2017 and look forward to sharing our show favorites with everyone. Making the move to including more natural products into your life will ultimately make the world a better place one small step at a time and keep making vendors more socially responsible for packaging, their carbon footprints and impacts on the environment. The next time you make the choice to support certifiedOrganic, Non GMO project verified, 1% for the planet, sustainable seafood, grass fed products you are making a difference. Living a local and sustainable life is one way of limiting big Agro’s impact on our food system.

The LA Times just announced a month-long food festival with some of the world’s best chefs

For the past few years, the LA Times has hosted The Taste, a three-day food festival at Paramount Studios. But they’ve just taken things up a notch with the announcement of a brand new (and, get this, month-long) festival called Food Bowl. For the entire month of May, the city will fill with food programs, pop-up dinners, internationally renowned chefs (Massimo Bottura, chef-owner of Osteria Francescana and the subject of a Chef’s Table episode, will be one of the participants) and a slew of other events and specials. The focal point of the event is Night Market, an outdoor food market held at Grand Park from May 10-14. With over 50 restaurants and food trucks, live entertainment and drinks each night, it’s poised to be a summer staple similar to 626 Night Market and Chinatown Summer Nights.

The South African tasting event, “From BBQ to Braai*”, has been making its way across the United States to educate the public on the food, music and culture of the Western Cape region where the BBQ takes center stage and can be dated back to the 17th century.

The Taste makes a Splash with Cocktail Confidential

A toast to The Taste LA’s Cocktail Confidential, as the Viva LA Foodies crew saddled up to the proverbial bar last Saturday night for an evening celebrating the beverage, awash with color and flavor throughout the Paramount back lot.
Food pairings this evening were conversely concocted to compliment the cocktail, for a change, with fresh herbs, spices and juices playing understudy to a host of great liquors.
