We had a brief yet successful visit to ExpoWest 2017 and look forward to sharing our show favorites with everyone. Making the move to including more natural products into your life will ultimately make the world a better place one small step at a time and keep making vendors more socially responsible for packaging, their carbon footprints and impacts on the environment. The next time you make the choice to support certifiedOrganic, Non GMO project verified, 1% for the planet, sustainable seafood, grass fed products you are making a difference. Living a local and sustainable life is one way of limiting big Agro’s impact on our food system.
Culinary driven cinema is on the rise and the film community is delivering some great foodie films this summer. The successful and highly anticipated film, CHEF produced by Jon Favreau earned record breaking viewings in theaters and THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY is another great culinary adventure that will continue to bring those same heart-warming sentiments and sizzle back to the box office with its culinary artistry and passionate and compelling story telling.
We discovered every “salad” you could imagine… There was not just couscous, but Israeli couscous, black kale, things with nuts, seeds, herbs, spices and roots… brightly colored exotic offerings by the dozen, too many to choose from! This is why their menu is designed to allow for a selection; a little of this, a scoop of that, and a portion of the other.
Behind every seasoned farmer there is a unique story and in the case of Chris Cadwell fromTutti Frutti, many. Some anecdotes are about relationships in the business, certain crops successes, unfortunate unexpected crop failures, trial and error, weather challenges, irrigation complications or bug infestations that destroy entire crops. Perseverance is king as well as experience and quick decision making. There is a reason he, like many other successful farmers have chosen the age old profession. If you ask anyone in the industry about his produce over the years, they will surely say that he is great at what he does.
Mahalo LA! Spring rolls and small bites are all the rage and with the high Labor Day travel costs right around the corner why not stay local and experience a taste of Aloha right here in your own backyard and roll over to your local Roy’s restaurant.

The talented folks from our collective will be creating art and selling their works throughout the evening.
By the end of the day we had consumed enough food and drink to satisfy a small army. We also managed to have a nice tweet-up with the dineLA crew that included dineLA director Stacey Sun along with her entourage from Discover Los Angeles and Thirsty in LA. The day would’nt have been complete without a toast and a hug from our good friend “The Bikini Chef” Susan Irby and a few of our other foodie friends in the crowd that we ran into. Cheers to another great year of Food & Lifestyle events.

The 16th Annual Redondo Beach Surf ‘N Turf Lobster Festival crept up faster than a pod of dolphins in the midst of a feeding frenzy. The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & the Visitors Bureau were well equipped this year and like previous years of the festival the food, music, fun, games and Maine Lobster dinner meal keep getting better. This years festival menu even provided the first ever “Surf & Turf” option complete with a Certified Angus Beef ® Center-Cut New York Strip Steak and Maine Lobster Tail or even a stand-alone 12 oz. The intersection at Rodeo Dr. and Wilshire Blvd. provided the VIP access point into “Desserts After Dark” and the team from Wagstaff Wordwide and our good friends Meghan & Vanessa had the entire event dialed in so much so, that they didn’t event have a chance to leave their post for something sweet.
Join Viva LA Foodies and a host of other chefs, foodies and cocktail enthusiasts as we show support for this powerful female culinary duo as they mash-up, mix-up, blend, puree and serve up culinary history on famed Abbot Kinney Blvd. A few select media invites are available in exchange for pre & post event coverage for this unforgettable evening. We hope to see everyone there chowing down next to us at the “Moveable Feast.”
When it comes to quoting movies, Wedding Crashers seems to “take the cake.” We surveyed a sample of our friends and everyone seemed to quote a different line from the hilarious timeless comedy. And it’s no surprise that our good friend and “Film Freak” Leo Quiniones is bringing this “Raunchy & Sweet Romantic Comedy” to the Outdoor Room at Station Restaurant at the W Hotel in Hollywood for a “Free” screening on August 22, 2011 for Monday Night Movies, Martinis and Manicures, one of his newest LA venues.
The success of the event sparked so much interest that event producers Seth “Meex” Wilder, Mike “June 22” Ziobrowski and myself, Adam “LA Foodie” Rubenstein from VivaLAfoodies have decided that the foundation and back-bone is strong for many more “X is The Weapon” collaborative events that will “pop up” throughout the Los Angeles area from Venice Beach to Downtown Los Angeles.
As usual we had a blast, but wouldn’t have been able to do it without our great friends in “high places.” Jane Summer from Summer Communications always takes care of us with her good graces and is a marketing force to be reckoned with and she has an extensive portfolio of restaurant clients to back it up. We always get the VIP treatment and we appreciate all of the great invites to the dinners and events that her team produces.
X Is The Weapon presents “EXHIBIT X”, a group exhibition showcasing the intersection of Art, Music, Food and Film for Japan Relief
Artists, Musician & Foodie’s unite once again, but this time we are slightly outside of Los Angeles City Limits in the OC and will be supporting Japan Relief efforts while mashing up Food x Art x Lifestyle x Music x Culture.
Please also join Viva LA Foodies & The Love Alone’s “MEEXONE” for our official collaborative “LA FOODIE” Tee Shirt Launch Party inside the Art Show, in conjunction with a “Live Printing Station” provided courtesy of our friends at Inked In Tees.
The splendor, mystique, romance and island spirit seem to never go away from our memories and you can agree especially if you have been to the Islands on one or more occasions. My last visit was over 2 years ago and being at the event made it feel like just yesterday. The Hawaiian culture and lifestyle is magical and is something that everyone must experience and appreciate at least once in their life. All good things must come to an end at sometime or another and we owe a big congratulations to Chef Mark Gold for taking home the title of the “Hawaiian Islands Master Chef.”
Viva LA Foodies was invited by Foodbuzz to attend the “Art In the Streets” and “Food x Film” presentation of the all new Levi’s film Workshop at the MOCA satelite museum at the Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo in LA this past Thursday.
